Paediatric Occupational Therapy in South West Sydney
Stepping Stones Occupational Therapy has been supporting children, teenagers and families across South West Sydney since 2005.
Based in Mount Pritchard, our paediatric occupational therapists provide individualised assessment and therapy for children and young people aged 0–18. We work closely with families, schools, early childhood settings and other health professionals to help children participate more confidently in everyday life.
For one child, that might mean learning to get dressed or open their lunch box independently. For another, it may mean developing handwriting skills, managing sensory overwhelm, participating in play or finding ways to navigate big emotions.
Whatever brings your family to us, we begin by listening. We take the time to understand your child’s strengths, needs and the activities that matter most to them and your family.

Supporting children to participate, develop and grow
Everyday activities can involve more skills than we realise.
Getting ready for school, holding a pencil, joining a game, following a classroom routine or managing a busy environment can be difficult when a child is experiencing motor, sensory, cognitive or emotional challenges.
At Stepping Stones OT, we help children develop the skills they need to participate more fully at home, at school and in the community.
Our occupational therapists can support children with:
-
Fine motor skills and hand strength
-
Gross motor skills, balance and coordination
-
Handwriting and classroom participation
-
Sensory processing
-
Emotional regulation
-
Attention, planning and organisation
-
School readiness
-
Play and social participation
-
Dressing, eating, toileting and other self-care skills
-
Building confidence and independence
-
Participating in family and community activities
Not every child will need support in all these areas. Our assessments help us understand what may be making particular activities difficult so that therapy can focus on meaningful and achievable goals.

Our story
Stepping Stones Occupational Therapy was founded in 2005 by experienced occupational therapist Stephanie Bath.
Stephanie grew up in Liverpool with an older sister who has a significant intellectual disability. This gave her a personal understanding of the joys and challenges families may experience when someone they love needs additional support.
After graduating from the University of Sydney in 2001, Stephanie worked across public and private settings, including as a senior occupational therapist with the former NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care.
Through this work, she recognised the need for experienced and accessible paediatric occupational therapy services in South West Sydney. Stepping Stones OT was created to help meet that need and provide children and families with practical, individualised support closer to home.
What began with a clear commitment to local families has grown into an established paediatric practice supporting children, schools and the wider South West Sydney community.
We see the whole child
A child is never defined by a diagnosis, an assessment result or a list of things they find difficult.
Every child is different, so therapy is shaped around their individual strengths, needs and goals.
Through play and meaningful activities, we help children build practical skills for everyday life at home, at school and in the community. We also work closely with parents and carers, offering realistic strategies that fit naturally into family routines.
Progress looks different for every child, and every step forward matters.

Individualised support across everyday life
Occupational therapy begins with understanding what is happening in your child’s daily life. We consider the activities they find difficult, the support they currently need and the goals that would make a meaningful difference to their participation and independence.
Depending on your child’s needs, an occupational therapy assessment may explore:
-
Fine and gross motor development
-
Sensory processing
-
Visual perception and visual-motor skills
-
Handwriting and classroom participation
-
Self-care and daily living activities
-
Attention, planning and organisation
-
